Programs
Non-Competitive Programs (Recreation/Learn to Program)
WRCC non-competitive programs focus on teaching canoe and kayak skills and water safety and work to improve participants overall fitness levels, in a fun positive environment
• Learn to Canoe/Kayak: This program is an introduction to the sport of Sprint Canoe/Kayaking and is geared for children age 9 to 14. Participants learn the basics of kayaking and are introduced to team boats. They are also introduced to the flat water canoe and the war canoe and are able to complete the CanoeKayak Canada (CKC) Canoe Kids Yellow Certification. Participants in this program often join the WRCC’s competitive program.
• Canoe Kids Camps: These camps are open to kids aged 9 to 14 and provide a progression through the basics of paddling, providing participants with the skills to safely enjoy the water in both canoes and kayaks. Participants can earn the Yellow, Green or Blue level of the CKC Canoe Kids Program depending on their skill progression over the duration of the program.
Community Programs
WRCC strives to ensure all youth in Regina have the opportunity to participate paddling in programs, including those who may encounter barriers to participation. In order to meet this goal, WRCC offers the following targeted programs:
• Inner City Canoe/Kayak Program: This program provides an opportunity for inner city youth to learn, train and compete in recreational canoes in addition to sprint canoes and kayaks.
• Special Needs Program: This program provides an opportunity for the physically challenged to learn, train and compete in sprint canoe and kayaks
